Hotfix 1.0.5: Shader Compilation Pipeline Rework to Address Stuttering

Hotfix 1.0.5 (Sept 10, 2026): Rebel Wolves rework the shader compilation pipeline to reduce stutter and lag for some users; one-line changelog, scoped to performance only.

Rebel Wolves shipped Hotfix 1.0.5 on September 10, 2026, roughly 24 hours after 1.0.4 and the smallest patch of the launch window so far. The whole changelog is one line under “General” — a rework of the shader compilation pipeline — but the framing matters: this is the studio’s first targeted performance patch, and they explicitly say it is not a universal fix. The Steam announcement closes with the studio’s standard line, “we will continue to make improvements so that you can enjoy The Blood of Dawnwalker more comfortably,” and does not commit to a follow-up date.

Full changelog

General

  • Improvements to the shader compilation pipeline, which can fix stuttering issues for some users.

We will continue to make improvements so that you can enjoy The Blood of Dawnwalker more comfortably. Thank you for your support and patience.

What this actually changes

Stuttering in The Blood of Dawnwalker has been one of the recurring complaints since launch, with the worst cases showing up as shader compilation hitches the first time a new effect, material, or volumetric asset streams in. 1.0.5 does not add new graphics options or change any preset — it rewrites how shaders are compiled and cached so the first-load hitch is smaller and less frequent. Rebel Wolves’ own wording — “for some users” — is the key caveat. Hardware with older or non-current NVIDIA driver branches, AMD RDNA 1, and Intel Arc are most likely to see a meaningful difference; users on current-gen NVIDIA RTX 40/50 series drivers with DLSS enabled may not notice a change at all.

This is also the first hotfix that does not ship quest, save, or controller fixes. It is purely a performance patch. If you were waiting for the still-open launch issues — full-screen flickering on reflective surfaces, PS5 button mapping, Gamepad cursor hijack, Linux/Steam Deck Proton audio crackling — 1.0.5 does not address them. See Launch Week Known Issues & Workarounds for the still-open list.

Where this fits in the launch-window cadence

The Blood of Dawnwalker has now shipped five patches in the first seven days after launch: day-one 1.003.000 (Sept 2), 1.0.2 (Sept 3), 1.0.3 (Sept 4), 1.0.4 (Sept 9), and 1.0.5 (Sept 10). The pattern that emerges is a two-track cadence: small quest / save / controller fixes roughly every other day, plus targeted performance patches as the studio gets enough telemetry on the shader stutter. 1.0.5 is the first time the cadence branches — it is performance-only, and it deliberately leaves the still-open launch issues for a future patch.

For pages that referenced stutter as a known caveat — the IGN PC Settings Guide mirror coverage, the Recommended Quest Order sections that flagged Volumetric Fog hitching in Svartrau crowds — the “stutter will improve in a future patch” disclaimer can now drop down to “stutter improved for some users in 1.0.5; the studio has flagged the rest as still being investigated.”
