The Blood of Dawnwalker gives you a full month, a full map, and very little guardrail about where to start. New players routinely lose 5-8 in-game days to inefficient routing, which is the difference between seeing all seven endings and locking themselves out of the final quest. This page consolidates the only spoiler-light first-playthrough route published by a verified post-launch walkthrough: the Ambrus → Bakir → Xanthe sequence from ConsolePulse, cross-checked against KeenGamer’s endings page and PowerPyx’s trophy roadmap.
Route at a glance
| Stage | Main objective | Reported level band | Save rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prologue | Protect family state, reach the open world | n/a | Keep a permanent post-prologue save |
| Setup | Reveal map, shrines, useful services | 1+ | Start a new slot before spending time |
| Ambrus | Fill Ambrus’s anger track, complete his confrontation | 1+ | Save before his main quest |
| Bakir | Build to ~20, then finish Bakir’s track | 20+ | Preserve the post-Ambrus save |
| Xanthe | Enter south prepared, finish Xanthe’s track | 25+ | Save before her main quest |
| Finale | Trigger the final route, protect alternate endings | n/a | One permanent pre-finale branch save |
The level bands are reported by ConsolePulse from a completed post-launch walkthrough (2026-09-08). They are not ConsolePulse gameplay-tested; treat them as a directional floor rather than a hard gate.
Why this order, not a story-preference order
The route follows the completed post-launch level bands, not the narrative order. Each of Brencis’s three vampire officers — Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe — guards a different difficulty range:
- Ambrus’s content begins at level 1. His three reported Blood Cellars (Seeing Red and similar) cost roughly 1 time unit each, and his transports/collectors/dungeons cost about 3. He is the safest first target and the cheapest in time.
- Bakir’s content is reported around level 20 and above. The gap after Ambrus is your build window — improve Coen, pick up manuals, open services.
- Xanthe’s content occupies the highest band, around level 25 and above. South of the map is also generally harder per the official region-scaling rule. Saving Xanthe for last means Ambrus and Bakir’s rewards can fund the harder route.
The practical implication: if you start at Ambrus and complete him, you enter Bakir’s window at roughly the level his content demands, and you enter Xanthe having already collected two vassals’ worth of gear and skill points.
The priority ladder (not a day-by-day script)
ConsolePulse frames the route as a priority ladder, not a rigid daily schedule. The Blood of Dawnwalker spends time only when selected actions advance the narrative — ordinary scouting, walking, talking, and looking do not move the hourglass. The right rhythm therefore alternates between paid progress (one time-consuming action) and unpaid preparation (free exploration).
Spend time on:
- A named quest that costs an hourglass and unlocks the next step
- A Court Activity that moves one of the three anger tracks toward its threshold
- One decisive officer confrontation when its anger track is full
- A manual save before any of the above
Do not spend time on:
- Every Xanthe marker “by habit” — raise her anger track only when you intend to confront her
- Random looting that does not move a quest, an upgrade, or a save forward
- Rushed exploration of a new region just because the icon is close
Step 1 — Finish the prologue carefully
The prologue is the section where delaying optional content can erase it. ConsolePulse identifies its side quests as timed and missable, and the Withering Away quest determines whether Esme survives the opening.
What this means for your save:
- If Esme’s survival matters to your route (it changes the Laslea epilogue), give her the correct medicine before its timer expires.
- After you reach the open world, immediately save in a fresh slot. This becomes your post-prologue anchor save — never overwrite it. Every trophy plan and every ending route depends on having a clean post-prologue state to reload.
Step 2 — Reveal the map before chasing markers
The full map of Vale Sangora is visible from the start, but visibility is not knowledge. Entering an area reveals activity indicators; details come from clues, locals, or going to the location.
Practical sequence:
- Climb the 11 Towers — they expose the question-mark activity layer around you.
- Unlock shrines and services (fast travel, merchants) as they fall naturally along the route.
- Spend time on a map reveal only when it serves your current officer target.
This is also where the regional scaling rule matters: the first time Coen enters a new area, his current level fixes that area’s minimum and maximum difficulty. The range stays locked afterward. Do not sprint across borders just because the next icon looks close — first entry is a campaign-long decision.
Step 3 — Break Ambrus first
Start Ambrus because his content sits at the lowest reported level band and his Blood Cellars/transports are the cheapest in time.
- Hit his three reported Blood Cellars (Seeing Red and similar) when available.
- Expect roughly 1 time unit per cellar and 3 time units per transport, collector, or dungeon.
- Save immediately before his main confrontation quest. This is the first real branch save.
After Ambrus: do not switch to Xanthe out of momentum. You are now at the level where Bakir’s content unlocks.
Step 4 — Build toward Bakir instead of rushing him
Bakir’s content is reported around level 20 and above. Use the post-Ambrus window to improve the build without scattering time across unrelated quest chains.
Practical upgrades during this gap:
- Buy skill manuals from Witchcraft Vendors, Swordmastery Teachers, and Armourers (see PowerPyx collectibles guide for locations).
- Open services that the earlier officer’s reward unlocked.
- Visit Svartrau — it has the widest selection of specialist merchants and is the best place to compare what your current route is missing before opening a new region.
Preserve the post-Ambrus save. If Bakir’s track goes wrong, you can return to a clean Ambrus-complete state and reroute.
Step 5 — Leave Xanthe for last
Xanthe’s activities and confrontation occupy the highest reported level band, around 25+. Going there last lets Ambrus and Bakir fund the harder route instead of treating the south as an early difficulty experiment.
Two key rules:
- Do not clear every Xanthe marker by habit. Raise her anger track only when you intend to confront her.
- Save before her main quest, especially because her questline includes the major Cycle of Love → A Hero’s End branch and the Crake choice point.
If you intend to see multiple endings, create a manual save before her main quest AND a second one before the post-Xanthe choice. These two saves become your bridge to every alternate outcome.
Step 6 — Protect the final branch
After all three officer confrontations, maximum infamy triggers the final sequence when time advances to the next day. The Infamy Edicts are read, Brencis makes contact, and A Deal with the Devil enters the journal.
This is the moment for your most important save of the run:
- Confirm Lacra’s questline is complete through Midnight Reckoning (unlocks The Patricide).
- Confirm Crake’s questline is complete through Who Pulls the Strings so Rise at Dawn is available (unlocks The Knyazmaker).
- Create a permanent manual save. Do not overwrite it.
- Begin “A Deal with the Devil.” The next dialogue choice is your branch point.
After the final quest, the game returns to the title screen — there is no post-ending free roam and no mission select. That pre-finale save is therefore the bridge to alternate endings, unfinished side content, and any cleanup your earlier archives still support.
Save and recovery rules
ConsolePulse and KeenGamer agree on three non-negotiable saves for any 30-day run that aims at more than one ending:
- Post-prologue save — before you spend any open-world time. Anchor save for trophy plans.
- Pre-finale save — after the three officer confrontations, before “A Deal with the Devil.” Bridge to every alternate ending.
- Pre-choice save — before any named-character confrontation, ally decision, or ending-route dialogue. Specifically before: Ambrus’s main quest, Bakir’s main quest, Xanthe / Cycle of Love / A Hero’s End, and the Brencis branch dialogue.
Do not overwrite these saves. When a branch resolves unsatisfactorily, reload from the appropriate anchor and try the other path.
Prologue missables the route depends on
ConsolePulse calls out that the prologue side quests are timed and missable, and that Withering Away’s outcome changes whether Esme survives. The route assumes:
- Esme gets the correct medicine before the prologue timer expires (changes the Laslea epilogue — see the endings guide).
- All prologue side quests the player wants are completed before leaving the prologue. After the prologue, they become unavailable.
If a trophy plan includes “Curiouser and Curiouser” or any other prologue-locked achievement, do the prologue side quests before moving on.
What this route does not do
This route is a priority ladder, not a trophy plan. To complete every ending from one campaign, layer these conditions on top of the route:
- Duelist difficulty (a one-playthrough trophy run requires it)
- Prologue missables (Esme medicine, prologue side quests)
- Progression saves (the four anchor saves above)
- Ending preparation (Lacra through Midnight Reckoning, Crake through Who Pulls the Strings)
- Pre-finale permanent save before “A Deal with the Devil”
For the trophy step-by-step, see PowerPyx’s The Blood of Dawnwalker Trophy Guide & Roadmap. For the choice-level decision matrix (which ally, which side, which romance), see the endings guide.
When your game disagrees with the route
ConsolePulse explicitly notes this guide is source-checked, not gameplay-tested. The following are still subject to launch-build confirmation:
- The exact Ambrus / Bakir / Xanthe level bands
- The exact activity costs and anger gains
- All prologue missable conditions
- Optional reward and NPC branches
- The final-quest trigger sequence
- Platform and patch parity
- Post-ending behavior and cleanup access
When the visible journal, Court menu, or hourglass value in your own game disagrees with this route, trust the visible state. Make a new manual save, note the active objective and campaign time, then test the branch without overwriting the last safe route.
Verified working as of: 2026-09-09. Built from ConsolePulse’s Best Quest Order and Route (2026-09-08), cross-checked with KeenGamer’s endings guide (2026-09-06) and PowerPyx’s main + side quest walkthrough (2026-09-02). If a specific level band or activity cost behaves differently on a later patch, the official patch note wins — please send corrections to the wiki feedback address.
